NORTH OF ENGLAND BEARDED COLLIE CLUB OPEN SHOW RESULTS

NORTH OF ENGLAND BEARDED COLLIE CLUB OPEN SHOW
Sunday May 4th 2008
I was very pleased to judge the North of England Bearded Collie Club’s Open show at the very pleasant Mypetstop venue in Leeds. It was excellently run by a very organised and friendly committee

MINOR PUPPY DOG (4)
1st Crompton’s Bumbleridge’s Muffinman
Very appealing six month brown puppy. Likes him for his overall type and balance, length of back and level topline. With some more ringcraft training could do very well. BEST PUPPY DOG.
2nd Tomlinson’s Itani Valentino at Coalacre
Six month slate baby who was slightly higher on the leg than 1. Good head, eye and expression, good shoulder angulation but slightly more rear angulation. Good coat coming. Excellently handled.
3rd Ayrton’s Braddabrook Muto
PUPPY DOG (2)
1st Provost’s Caldermist Caledonia
Slate puppy of nice type. Good head and expression, nicely arched neck and good length of back. Adequate angulation front and rear and good coat coming through. Very unsteady on the move so difficult to assess.
2nd Marczac’s Debbeacol Sun, Moon ‘n’ Stars
Dark slate boy with good head, pleasing expression and dark eyes. Had good length of back and seemed to have good angulation but was not easy to go over and not easy to assess on the move. He also needs to do a lot more ringcraft
VETERAN (I,a)
JUNIOR DOG (2)
1st Butcher’s Megamaree Main Hilight
Nicely balanced dog with good head, eye and expression. Nicely arched neck leading into good shoulders. Good length and depth of chest and well angulated hindquarters. Was not absolutely in tune with his handler so his movement suffered somewhat.
2nd Provost’s Caldermist Caledonia
SPECIAL YEARLING DOG (3,1a)
1st Fox & Farrier’s Bushblades Transaction JW
One of the top winning youngsters of the moment and a real favourite of mine. He didn’t disappoint on close inspection, Masculine head, good eye and typical beardie expression, nicely arched neck which flowed into well laid shoulders and good length of upper arm. Good length and depth of chest, short loin and lovely length of back. His hindquarters are well angled with good turn of stifle and short hocks. Has grown a good textured coat which completed a perfect outline standing. This boy really excels when moving and covers the ground with an easy, light footed and scopy gait.
BEST DOG and BEST IN SHOW.
2nd Salter’s Bargemon Mabuni Kenzo
Another well balanced dog with a lot of good attributes. Good head and eye colour, well angulated front and rear and good length of back coming from good length of chest. Moved well but just needs to grow some more coat to complete the picture.
MAIDEN DOG (2)
1st Salter’s Bargemon Mabuni Kenzo
2nd Provost’s Caldermist Caledonia
NOVICE DOG (1)
1st Provost’s Caldermist Caledonia
DEBUTANT DOG (1)
1st Salter’s Bargemon Mabuni Kenzo
GRADUATE DOG (5,2a)
1st Burfitt’s Breaksea Masquerade
Very nice Dark slate dog who appealed to me for overall type and balance.Wonderful expression with dark eye and pigment, good angulation, nice length of back and good rib. Just needs a little more finish in coat. Moved well with good ground covering strides.
2nd Hale & Burfitt’s Breaksea Jumpin’ Jack Flash
Another nice young dog who is well angulated and balanced, needs more coat finish and more control on the move.
3rd Butcher’s Megamaree Set the Style
POST GRADUATE DOG (4,1a)
1st Nicholls-Ward’s Bumbleridge’s Naughty ‘n’ Nice
Masculine dark slate dog of excellent type. Lovely head and expression, nicely angulated, good chest and length of back. Well coated with a correct textured jacket. Moved very well and completely in tune with his handler.
2nd Hale & Burfitt’s Breaksea Jumpin’ Jack Flash
3rd Crompton’s Calston Country Swagman
LIMIT DOG (6,3a)
1st Hines’ Ramsgrove Ragthyme
Classic slate dog that appealed to me for his type and balance. Nice expression with good eye colour and pigment, masculine head and strong arched neck. Good forehand angulation, deep long rib and lovely topline which he held well on the move. His nicely angled hindquarters produced good drive and he was only out moved by the Best in Show on good form today. He has a good texture coat which just needs a little more finish. RESERVE BEST DOG.
2nd Nicholls-Ward’s Bumbleridge’s Naughty ‘n’ Nice
3rd Blasedale-Holmes’ Slatyford Night at the Opera
OPEN DOG (5,2a)
1st Harkin’s Claudalla Doctor Marigold
Outstanding brown, the most masculine here today. He has a very impressive head, dark eyes and pigment and a wonderful expression. He is nicely put together with balanced angulation and has a really deep and long ribcage. His outline is completed by a rich dark brown jacket of perfect texture. Moved well but slightly lacked animation.
2nd Burfitt’s Breaksea Evolution
Striking slate dog with lots of good qualities. Good head eye and expression, strong neck and nicely angled forehand. Good length of ribcage and strong topline. Matching good rear angulation and short hocks. Moved well but at times looked slightly lethargic.
3rd Jellie’s Jellwell Juke Box Jury
MINOR PUPPY BITCH (6,1a)
A very strong class of baby girls.
1st Robinson’s Bendale Maid in Blue at Thingamebob
Pretty blue bitch of lovely type. Very feminine with nice expression and good eye colour. Liked the way she was set into herself with lovely front and rear angulation and good rib. Excellent topline which was held well on the move. Moved really well for one so young.
2nd Hard’s Braemoray Isle of Gigha
Another very pretty young slate bitch of excellent type. Nice head and kind expression, completely balanced angles, moved and showed very well.
3rd Nicholls-Wards’ Bumbleridge Morning Mist

PUPPY BITCH (6,1a)
1st Hines’ Ramsgrove Lizzie Lentil
I was very impressed by this young dark slate bitch. Good head, dark eye and pigment and very appealing expression. She is nicely put together with excellent forehand angulation and good length of upper arm. Her ribcage is deep and long and she has good length of back. Her hindquarters are well angled with short strong hocks. On the move she covered the ground well with scopy effortless movement. BEST PUPPY BITCH and BEST PUPPY IN SHOW.
2nd Robinson’s Bendale Maid in Blue at Thingamebob
3rd Osborne’s Osmart Sadie’s Black Mink
VETERAN BITCH (5)
1st Edward’s CH.Breaksea Devil in Disguise at Nellbrook
Wonderful 11 year old slate bitch who looked only half that age. Very feminine with lovely eye and expression, good balanced front and rear angulation and excellent topline for her age. In full glamorous coat she flowed round the ring with really good reach and drive.
2nd Wooley’s Pipadene Pastel Portrait at Aratika
Another 11 year old that really looked good for her age, she is in excellent condition and in very good coat. Very much my type, strongly made but still very feminine, very balanced with good length of back. Was just out moved by 1 today.
3rd Parker’s Osmart Rosies Black Swan

JUNIOR BITCH (5)
1st Wooley’s Pipadene Time to Shine for Aratika
Beautiful brown bitch, another favourite of mine. Strongly made but very feminine with wonderful beardie expression and good eye colour. Excellent shoulder placement and good length of upper arm, ribcage long and deep with good length of back and strong well angled hindquarters. Excels on the move, covers the ground with easy long reaching strides. RESERVE BEST BITCH.
2nd Stead’s Potterdale Philigree at Clovabrae
Attractive dark slate bitch who presented a good outline. Nice expression and eye colour, good forehand but slightly more angulation at the rear. Moved very well but not quite the forehand reach of 1.

2nd Milne’s Nellbrook Blue Enchantment of Jentilima
Slightly taller bitch than 1 but lots to like about her. Very feminine with nice expression and eye colour, good angles front and rear and nice length of rib. She moved well but just preferred the overall balance of 1.
3rd Hale’s Breaksea Resolution
POST GRADUATE BITCH (4,2a)
1st Milne’s Nellbrook Blue Enchantment of Jentilima
2nd Home & Lewis’ Potterdale Pyromania
Pretty slate bitch with lovely expression and dark eye, good front assembly but slightly more angulation at the rear, I probably would have preferred her slightly longer in back but nevertheless moved fairly well.

LIMIT BITCH
1st Tomlinson’s Coalacre Heartbreaker
My find of the day! I must admit that I haven’t really noticed this bitch in the ring before but I was very taken with her today. Ultra feminine with the darkest of eyes and pigment. Excellently angled front and rear assemblies, good depth and length of ribcage, nice length of back and strong level topline. Moved out well with very good reach and drive, just needs slight more coat finish but I’m sure she has a bright future. Excellently handled. BEST BITCH.
2nd Fox’s Bushblades American Tune
Brown bitch of nice type. Good head ,eye and expression, balanced front and rear angulation and good length of rib and back. Nice texture of coat but needs more finish. Moved well but not the reach and drive of 1.

Daughter of the winner of my veteran class. Plain slate with no exaggerations, balanced all through with good rib and length of back. Moved well but just preferred front and rear angulation of 1.

NORTH OF ENGLAND BEARDED COLLIE CLUB OPEN SHOW - 14/5/05

I was delighted to be asked to judge this breed open show, and I would like to thank the committee, the very helpful stewards I had, and most of all the exhibitors. I thoroughly enjoyed my day. BIS was Breaksea Revolution, RBIS, BOS and BVIS was Bethlyntee Summer Breeze, and BPIS was Breaksea Immortality.
I am concerned that more beardies seem to have a narrower underjaw than years ago, though this does not apply to my winners. My only criticism on teeth though is that some dogs would benefit from having them cleaned.
DOGS

MINOR PUPPY DOG (2)

1st Hancock’s Rainforest Razzle Dazzle ‘Em Lovely 6mths dark slate boy. Lovely dark eyes and expression. Correct angles front and back, nice length of rib. Lovely outline standing and moved well for one so young. So well balanced.
2nd Thorpe’s Ramsgrove Majical Memory Another dark slate, 8 months. Beautiful head proportions, nice neck leading into good shoulders. Correct in all departments. Moved out well. Just felt he wasn’t quite as settled as winner.

PUPPY DOG (2)

1st Burfitt’s Breaksea Evolution 11 months slate. Beautiful flat skull, correct bite and expression. Nicely laid shoulder and length of upper arm. Well balanced rear proportions. His overall outline was one of balance. Moved steadily. Best Puppy Dog.
2nd Thorpe’s Ramsgrove Majical Memory.

VETERAN DOG (6)

1st Nicholls-Ward’s Ch.Bumbleridge’s Scooby-Do Brown 7 yr old. I loved his head and expression. Well balanced front and rear. Nice length or rib. Correct height to length ratio. Stood well and moved like a dream.
2nd Horne’s Potterdale Montana Similar remarks as winner, but just felt on the day he didn’t move just quite as well as winner.
3rd Aughey’s Aughenaird Double Trouble Dark slate with wonderful head and dark eyes. Balanced proportions and moved well.

JUNIOR DOG (5, 3abs)

1st Nicholls-Ward’s Bumbleridge’s Orinoko Dark slate with nice head, dark eye and pigment. Has good front angulations, nice length of ribcage. Stood well but tended to ‘roll’ slightly on the move.
2nd Ritchie’s Sinnamon Scirrocco Brown, massive coat which is at the pale stage. Nice boy. Good proportions but would prefer more layback of shoulder. Not as settled at winner.

SPECIAL YEARLING DOG (3)

1st Nicholls-Ward’s Bumbleridge’s Orinoko
2nd Hannan’s Tykesway Dark Symphony This boy has a lovely head, nice eye, good length of neck. Good upper arm but would prefer more layback of shoulder. Nicely shaped ribcage but found him a little long in the loin. Moved well and well presented.
3rd Ritchie’s Sinnamon Scirrocco.

MAIDEN DOG (2)

1st Hancock’s Rainforest Razzle Dazzle ‘Em
2nd Ritchie’s Sinnamon Scirrocco

1st Flint’s Bendale Moments In Thyme Very nice slate. Lovely expression and good flat skull. Nicely balanced front and rear assemblies. Correct length or rib. Moved well, just a little proud of his tail.

LIMIT DOG (4, 1abs)

1st Atkin’s Coalacre Cruisin’ To Snikkles Slate, beautifully correct skull and head. Nice neck. Correct height to length ratio, nicely angulated front and rear. Correct length of ribcage. Moved well and kept topline on the move. Reserve Best Dog.

3rd Aughey’s Aughenaird Jeanies Double This dog has the most wonderfully correct head and expression. A nice layback of shoulder with good length of upper arm. Good ribcage and rear angulation. Just felt he could have made more of himself on the move.

OPEN DOG (10)

1st Burfitt’s Breaksea Revolution Well coated slate. Good flat masculine head. Lovely layback of shoulder and length of upper arm. Good length and correct shape of ribcage. So well balanced. Moved well, covered the ground with ease and held his topline on the move. Never put a foot wrong, this was his day. Best Dog, and Best in Show.
2nd Cinnamond & Lewis’s Potterdale Thespian. My remarks for winner apply to this lovely dog too, good 2nd thigh, well handled and presented. Just preferred movement of winner.
3rd Nicholls-Ward’s Bumbleridge’s Quincey’s Quest.

BITCHES

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (absent)

PUPPY BITCH (9,3abs)

1st Magnell & Burfitt’s Breaksea Immortality Beautiful dark slate girl. Very feminine, nice layback of shoulder and upper arm. Correct length to height ratio. Good ribcage. Moved well. One I could easily have taken home with me. Well presented and handled. Litter sister to puppy dog winner, and half sister to my BIS. Best Puppy in Show
2nd Hale’s Breaksea Resolution. Lovely brown girl with thick puppy coat. Strong but feminine skull and head. Good proportions front and rear. Slightly wavy coat at the moment. Enjoying her day out. Liked her a lot. I see she is sired by my BIS winner.
3rd Edwards’ Nellbrook Mystification. Another lovely girl, slightly finer skull than 1st and 2nd, lovely expression, good shoulders and ribcage, moved well

VETERAN BITCH (9, 2abs)

What a wonderful class of lovely bitches.
1st Dumbrell’s Bethlyntee Summer Breeze. 7 year old dark brown. Not a ‘flashy’ bitch but such quality. Strong but feminine head, lovely neck leading into well laid back shoulders, good length of upper arm. Correct height to length ratio with good length of rib. Moved well and held her topline on the move. Never put a foot wrong. Best Bitch, Best Opposite Sex & R.BIS.
2nd Canty’s Hamble Half-A-Moon at Bargemon. 10 yr old. Nice head and expression. Well made proportions throughout, good front and rear assembly, nice length of rib. Could show a lot of the younger ones how to move. Lovely girl.
3rd Wooley’s Pipadene Pastel Portrait at Aratika. 8 yr old. Lovely head and eye, correct length of ribcage, good 2nd thigh. Again, like 1st and 2nd, she could really move and held her topline. Well handled

JUNIOR BITCH (4, 2abs)

1st Farrar & Jones’s Odderwood Gift of Black Jet 11 months old baby, and lots of maturing to do. Feminine head with nice eye, nice proportions throughout. Moved out ok.
2nd Brocklehurst’s Odderwood Gift of Crystal Litter sister to winner, and very little between them, same remarks apply. Could change places another day. Again, moved ok.

SPECIAL YEARLING BITCH (5, 3abs)

1st Hines’ Firstprizebears Chattooga at Ramsgrove (Imp) Nice young bitch, good head, lovely front with nice correct length of rib and loin. Presented a well-balanced picture standing and covered the ground with ease on the move.
2nd Buxton’s Braemoray Summer Dream at Mizzentop. Another lovely bitch, very little between these two. Nice layback of shoulder and length of upper arm. Perhaps not quite so long in rib as 1, but still correct. Good rear assembly and moved well.

GRADUATE BITCH (5, 2abs)

1st Burfitt & Leroy’s Breaksea Solitaire What a nice girl this is, and very typical of this kennel. Good length of upper arm and layback of shoulder, correct shape and length of ribcage. Well balanced rear. My notes say best head and mover in this class. I note she is half sister to the BIS.
2nd Furby & Penn’s Pepperwood Aphrodite. Another lovely beardie girl, finer throughout than winner, very feminine. Nice head and expression. Balanced front and rear assemblies. Moved well.
3rd Price’s Mobuff Dazed And Confused. Again like 2nd, finer than winner. Good head and lovely expression. Good length of ribcage and nice short loin. Standing she looked a picture but on the move she lost her topline and sloped away.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (5, 2abs)

1st Dumbrell’s Bethlyntee Nutmeg. Very sweet brown with good head, dark eyes and pigment. Lovely outline and all her angles were in the right places. Good ribcage and short loin. Moved well.
2nd Burfitt’s Breaksea Black Magic. Nice dark slate bitch. Strong correct head and skull, but still feminine. Good front with well laid back shoulder, nice length of rib, good rear assembly. Moved well.
3rd Furby & Penn’s Kiltondale Harmony at Pepperwood. Narrower throughout than 1st and 2nd, but lovely girl nevertheless. Good ribcage and loin. Would have preferred slightly more angulation on rear. Moved ok but slightly close behind.

LIMIT BITCH (7)

1st Atkins’ Kelham Hot Gossip. Beautiful bitch. Gorgeous head and expression, lovely layback of shoulder and length of upper arm. Nice length of rib, short loin. Such a lovely shape and so well balanced. Beautifully presented and moved out well. Reserve Best Bitch.

OPEN BITCH (7, 2abs)

1st Hard’s Braemoray Benvannoch JW. Plain but quality bitch. Nice head and eye. Good shoulder and length of upper arm. Balanced throughout. Lovely mover, flowed round the ring.
2nd Lundell’s Sw.Ch. Farmarens Real Diamond (ATC AF00192SWE). All my remarks for 1st apply to this dark slate girl. When she came into the ring I was sure she would be my winner but unfortunately became quite unsettled… a pity as she is so well made and was a lovely mover.
3rd Nicholls-Ward’s Merrymore Toffee Truffle from Bumbleridge. Lovely brown bitch, nice head, good eye. Well balanced fore and aft. Very well presented and good on the move, covering the ground with ease.

MPD
1st Fox & Farrier’s BUSHBLADES TRANSACTION
An excellent class but this lovely baby won on his general composure, balance and easy movement. Correct overall outline although his lead cut the outline of his neck. Strong muzzle and flat skull. Good eye colour and pigment. Good shoulders and upper arm. Good length coming from ribs, well bent stifle and short hocks which he used to advantage on the move. Well deserved BPIS.
2nd Richardson’s DIOTIMA LAST LAUGH AT CARAMAC
Correct outline although a different type from 1st. More elegant but still balanced. Very well pigmented, good dark eye. Lovely neck leading smoothly into sloping shoulders. I liked this baby very much but he lost out to 1st on his uncollected movement.
3rd Wood’s POTTERDALE STAR AUDITION FOR PEPPERJAY.
Similar to 2nd, his movement let him down. Slightly up at rear at present but should correct as he grows. I did like him though.
These were 3 very nice puppies and a pleasure to judge in the first class.

PD.
1st Fox & Farrier’s BUSHBLADES TRANSACTION
2nd Tomlinson’s COALACRE INQUISITION
More mature than 1st, strong muzzle and lower jaw, good eye colour, strong flat skull, moderate neck leading into well laid shoulders. Good harsh coat. Excelled in profile, showing drive and reach when moving, but his front movement let him down which cost him 1st place.
3rd Wood’s POTTERDALE STAR AUDITION FOR PEPPERJAY

Vet.D.
1st Wilson’s BEARDIEBRIE DOUBLE DIAMOND
8 yo with good general outline. Lacking a little in coat but what he had was of good texture. Good eye and muzzle, flat skull. Super neck. Kept his topline on the move.
2nd.Horne’s POTTERDALE MONTANA
A well made dog who wasn’t relaxed when standing which affected his general outline. He relaxed on the move, became much more confident and allowed me to see his good length.
3rd Woolley’s ARATIKA KYALAMI
Sorry, no notes on this one.

JD
1st Nicholls-Ward’s BUMBLERIDGE’S NAUGHTY ‘N’NICE. Very mature, well schooled and presented male. Strong muzzle, lovely expression. Flat skull, good strong neck, well laid shoulders. Good rib, strong loin. Moved well. RBD
2nd Murphy’s RAMSGROVE ROVERS RETURN
Lovely type, strongly made although not the biggest of dogs. Strong muzzle, super expression, good neck leading into well laid shoulders. Good harsh coat. Moved ok, less co-ordinated than 1st.
3rd Hale & Burfitt’s BREAKSEA JUMPING JACK FLASH
This is a lovely dark slate who threw away his chance of a higher place. Good strong muzzle, lovely expression, arched neck, well laid shoulders and good upper arm. Correct length and good rib. Coat of correct length, enhancing his body shape. If only his owner could control his clowning on the move!

SP.Y.
1st Nicholl-Ward’s BUMBLERIDGE NAUGHTY ‘N’ NICE JW
2nd Hines RAMSGROVE RAGTHYME
Good head, neck, shoulders and length coming from rib. Harsh coat but not quite the finish of winner. Showed reach and drive when moving but lacked a bit of enthusiasm.
3rd. Powell & Lewis’s POTTERDALE PURSUIT.
Really liked this young dog but he was inclined to tuck his rear end under when standing. Strong muzzle, dark eye giving lovely alert expression. Strong neck leading into super shoulders. Good length of rib and level topline. He excelled on the move, covering the ground easily. His coat is still at the in between stage and his lack of maturity cost him today.

This was a good class.
1st Burton’s MOPPETSWOOD CELTIC SPIRIT
Unexaggerated, well balanced dog who outmoved the rest of the class. Not the biggest of dogs, plainly marked with a harsh, correct coat, dark eye. Liked him, especially moving where he covered the ground with an easy, fluid action.
2nd Nicholl-Ward’s BUMBLERIDGE ORINOKO JW.
Dark slate with good head, dark eye, lovely expression. Good length and rib, coat could have been harsher. Moved well but not with the smoothness of 1st.

Good outline, strong muzzle and head. Dark eye giving lovely expression. Decent neck, well laid shoulders, good length coming from rib. Well angulated.

OD
1st Spurrier’s GELILAND SEA BREEZE
2yo mid slate who is looking so much better for carrying less coat. Good pigment, really dark eye giving a lovely expression. Strong muzzle, flat skull, good strong neck leading into well laid shoulders. Strong, level topline, long rib. Well muscled second thighs, short hocks. This dog had a lovely outline which was finished off by a correct harsh coat. Moved well with reach and drive. BD, BOS & RBIS
2nd Ferrigno CHILLIBEARS I’M THE ONE
Liked this dog’s outline standing and liked his attitude but he dropped his topline on the move. Bit exaggerated rear movement and lacked the overall balance of 1st.

MPB

This puppy presented a lovely outline, good neck, length of back, short hocks which she used in a positive driving movement. Bit long in foreface and narrow skull. Good coat, well presented. BPB
2nd Walsh’s TERZINA BLUE RIBBON
Promising blue baby with everything right for age. Inexperienced handler who might have got more out of her.

PB
1st Hine’s FARMARENS ESSENTIAL FOR RAMSGROVE

Mid grey 2 yo. Well balanced, good eye & pigment. Good harsh coat. Moved ok.

Fawn, unsettled and so didn’t make the most of herself. Relaxed on the move and was much happier. Good eye colour, front, neck and coat.

PGB
1st Birchall’s DEANFIELD JUSTA SYMPHONY FOR MOTSWARI
2 yo brown bitch, lovely front, neck and outline. Good strong muzzle and head. Excellent pigment & eye colour. She moved so soundly and freely, with good front reach, and drive from a well angulated rear. Correct tail carriage and a lovely harsh, close fitting coat completed the picture. BB and although a close decision, her more mature coat finish gave her BIS over the male.
2nd Clancy’s TALRAZ INNOVATION
3rd Kochanowski’s WALKERBRAE WILD BERRY AT THORNSKY
